Understanding Monavie’s Freeze Drying Process

Low temperatures ensure that the powerful phytonutrients remain intact. Other drying methods where high temperatures are used, destroy the phytonutrients. MonaVie has tested freeze dried Açai powder nine months after its production date and the nutrients levels were still at the same levels they were at when the freeze dried powder was tested after production.

 

On top of using the freeze dried açai berry MonaVie does not clarify the açai puree. Açai has a high amount of lipids or fats. Depending on the region of Brazil and time of harvest, the amount of fat from the açai can vary.  If you pour MonaVie into a cup or look at the blend in the bottle you will notice a green oily substance. This oily substance is fat that comes from the açai berry.

 

If you look at other açai juice drinks you will notice that this is not contained in their drink.  These deposits that you see in the MonaVie blend are nothing more than the healthy fats known as mono and poly-unsaturated fats which are derived from the large amount of Açai in the formula.

In the 1990’s, we were erroneously told that all fat was bad for us. Now, carbs are being blamed for America’s increasing waistline. Even some athletes have fallen into the low-carb trap. I urge you not to make this same mistake. If you want to lose weight, build muscle, have tons of energy, and even improve your skin and sex drive - you need to eat carbs. It’s true - carbs are good for you! You just need to know when and how to eat them.

First, let’s dispel some myths about low carb diets like the Atkins diet. It is estimated that nearly 60 million Americans have tried to avoid carbohydrate-rich foods, such as bread, pasta and cereal. Even Burger King is cashing in on this trend by selling a bunless burger! Still, the average person’s weight in this country continues to increase.

What is going wrong? Low-carb diets do not work long-term because they contain too many calories. They also require you to avoid carbohydrates for the rest of your life, which quickly leaves most people feeling deprived and unsatisfied. Eating should be pleasurable, not stressful. Even worse, low carb diets can wreck your metabolism and damage your health. Traditional low carb diets ban fruits and certain vegetables. It just doesn’t make sense to deny your body these foods, which protect against cancer, hypertension and heart disease. Getting healthy is not just about losing weight, it is about gaining health.

For years I helped members of the Russian National Athletic Team drop fat, build muscle, and improve their performances by alternating between days of eating a normal amount of carbs and days of limited carb consumption. This method produced amazing results because it was based on real science, not marketing hype by the diet industry.

When I moved to America, I started seeing clients who dieted and exercised regularly but still could not lose weight. They didn’t realize that a slowed metabolism was derailing their efforts. That’s when I decided to create a plan that could be as effective as the program I developed for the Russian athletes but simple enough for anyone to use. The Carb Cycling Diet was born.

The key to carb cycling is learning how to exploit the two important bodily processes that determine how you look and feel - anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism is the process by which your body builds muscle. Catabolism is the process by which your body burns fat. Low carb diets focus only on changing your catabolism - they do not help you build muscle. By alternating between low carb and higher carb days, my clients have been able to get the lean, strong bodies they have always wanted. They also enjoy the luxury of eating the foods they love, as long as they eat them at the right time. It takes a little discipline at first, but it is far easier and healthier than restriction diets like Atkins.

During normal carb days, I recommend eating between 350 to 400 grams of carbohydrates. That’s about what you probably are already eating. Keep in mind that you should focus on eating unrefined carbs from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Limited refined carbs from sugar and processed white flour. On limited carb days, do not eat any foods containing sugar or white flour. Try to keep your carbs under 300 grams a day. You should never starve yourself or feel hungry, even on limited carb days. Sound tricky? It’s not! Counting carbs is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Plus, the small extra effort will bring you a huge payoff. If you combine carb cycling with exercise, you will protect yourself from age-related illnesses, such as osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, and even form of cancer. You’ll also look and feel great.

Other than an altered form of water, most of the products marketed as energy drinks contain high doses of sugar and caffeine as their two main ingredients. Some energy drinks may also contain herbal forms of caffeine including extracts of guarana seeds, kola nuts, and yerba mate leaves.

What supposedly makes these drinks healthier than a regular soda is that you also get some vitamins, amino acids, and herbal supplements. The average energy drink has very little of these added ingredients to be of any real health value. However, a few particular brands do add mega doses of B vitamins (which have not been proven to give you more energy, by the way), so read labels. If you eat a wide variety of foods you should not need an energy drink for a pick me up.

Why do most young people drink these drinks? They are, quite simply, looking for the buzz or short term energy they give the user. Caffeine is a drug, but unlike tobacco or alcohol which are legal and regulated, caffeine is legal and totally unregulated in the multi-billion dollar beverage industry.

Most health conscious people understand that large amounts of sugar and caffeine are not healthy for your body, and drinking a lot of them will definitely keep you hyper (depending on your reaction to sugar and caffeine), help you put on extra weight, and keep you dehydrated.

Most people do not understand the body’s reaction to another ingredient in most of these drinks of a carbonated base. Phosphoric acid is a synthetically, and inexpensively, produced acid that is widely used in soda-like drinks, and yes, even heavily promoted healthy energy drinks. You can even find phosphoric acid in some cheeses, beer, wine, jams and jellies, and in especially large amounts in sodas. Phosphoric acid is added as a tangy flavor enhancer. In nature, this type of tangy flavor can be found in ginger or lemon

Many people would also be shocked to learn that it has an acidity that approaches the level of battery acid. Drinking acidic carbonated beverages is not only bad for your teeth, it also dissolves away your whole skeletal system. Americans drink more than 50 gallons per capita of carbonated soft drinks each year, and Americans have the highest per capita CSD consumption in the world.

Phosphoric acid is used in fertilizers, detergents, and it is used to clean rust off of metal in industrial strength cleaners. The human body’s reaction to high levels of this stuff is to pull stored minerals out of your bones to keep your blood at a normal pH, more alkaline balance. If it were not for this automatic response, drinking this stuff would actually kill you.

Many people that have pre-existing health problems such as excess weight issues, high blood pressure, or mental conditions will have individual responses to high doses of caffeine, sugar, and acid intakes. Energy drinks stimulating properties, along with the little added benefits of vitamins and herbal substances, have unknown reactions to prescription medications a person may be taking, and can not be assumed to be safe.

Energy drinks, if consumed in mass quantities along with other caffeine intakes of coffees, teas, sodas, or caffeine pills, can boost the heart rate and raise blood pressure (sometimes to the point of palpitations), dehydrate the body, and caffeine like other stimulants, prevents sleep.

People of all ages, in the United States, are chronically sleep deprived. We push the limits on being workaholics. We push our children to out perform academically, athletically, and socially. We seem to be highly influenced and driven to be financially and socially successful to feel accepted, and we pass these desires onto our offspring as well.

But, when we push the limits on our self-medicating, poison control centers are seeing increased numbers of emergency room visits, especially from youngsters. Teenagers are suffering from rapid heartbeat, nausea, and respiratory distress caused by caffeine overdoses.

The energy drink market targets the 18 to 30 year old age group. But sadly, children much younger than this are buying into this ad marketing gimmick. This does not happen by chance, intense marketing efforts aimed at young adults also lure in children to help soft drink companies gross over 3.5 billion in sales in 2005 on energy drinks alone, in the United States.

The effects of high doses of caffeine and sugar on young children have not been extensively studied. No one knows how safe or unsafe these substances are for growing young bodies. And, while adults may be less likely to abuse these drinks, our modern day culture has a nonchalant attitude towards caffeine and sugar consumption.

This uncaring attitude may be the main underlying issue behind the increased need for prescription sleeping pills. More than a few doctors have probably wondered why people do not control their use of caffeine before seeking a hard core sleep solution such as these. According to Medco Health Solutions of Franklin Lakes, N.J., the use of such medications by adults ages 20 to 44 has increased 114 percent from 2000 to 2005.

Modern and technologically advanced cultures around the world seem to be easily led by one of the most successful beverage ad marketing campaigns to ever grace the last decade. This is truly a dream come true for beverage companies. They are promoting a supposedly unique and healthy beverage, and understand all too well why this modern day culture feels a need to get wired.

A better source of long lasting energy that will not let you down is simply this;

1.Eat more healthy whole foods, covering all of the basic food groups daily.

2.Engage in moderate physical exercise every day, walking is one of the best forms of exercise.

3.Allow yourself plenty of sleep, limit caffeine consumption up to six hours before bedtime, especially if your are sensitive to it.

4.Stay well hydrated with nothing more than water. Open your mind to its simplicity, inexpensiveness, and ability to energize you.

You should not, then, have the need to buy an grossly overpriced chemical cocktail to keep you going, or pad the bank accounts of beverage companies looking for easy money.

During this phase your diet should include protein rich foods such as chicken, whole eggs, cooked beef, and a variety of fish. You also need foods that are high in the ‘good’ fats such as dairy products and olive oil. For your carb meal you may have a green salad with a low carb dressing. You may also have foods such as green beans and broccoli.

Phase two of the Atkins program is what they call the ongoing weight loss phase, or the OWL. During this phase, you must keep on eating the foods that are high in protein and fat. The primary difference in phase two is that you begin to re-add carbohydrates to your diet in 5 gram intervals. The objective is to add 5 grams of carbohydrates per week until you stop loosing weight.

If you are satisfied with your current weight, then you stay with the current amount of carbohydrates. If you want to lose more weight, you need to drop 5 grams per week until you are back down to 20 grams, or you reach your desired weight.

After that, your effort to burn fat becomes complicated by your body’s tendency to want to hold onto the fat stores. It will seek to accomplish this by lowering your metabolism. Therefore, when you alter the amount of carbohydrates, your body cannot adapt as quickly, and will utilize the fat stores instead of changing the metabolism.

The Atkins way is one of the best forms of low carb diet. Not only does it allow you to see immediate results, it takes into account the homeostatic tendencies of your body. Finally, once you have reached your target weight, you will be able to continue on the regimen in order to maintain healthy nutrition habits.
